On Sunday we were discussing the listeria outbreak in the Colorado cantaloupe crop. M speculated that the responsible farm had some piece of contaminated equipment that then touched the melons which were not then washed before they were cut open. The knife is then contaminated by the outside and introduces the listeria to the edible portion. The discussion then turned to organic which is often fertilized with livestock manure. M’s conclusion “You can eat pesticides or you can eat shit”. I love that girl!
